About Us
Somali Youth Helpline is a voluntary organisation with charitable purposes based in Southall, Middlesex. The organisation was set up in March, 2007 and runs a confidential helpline service for disaffected and vulnerable Somali youth on voluntary basis. The organisation has no paid staff at a moment but has utilises 5 volunteers who manage the helpline and drop-in sessions as well as the administrative work.
Our main purpose is to empower disaffected and vulnerable Somali youth and help them make informed choices by offering culturally sensitive information, advice and support through integrated bilingual helpline provision. We also aim to increase volunteering in the youth and help them share positive experience through mentoring and role models. The helpline also aims to promote cross-cultural understanding to promote social cohesion and racial harmony.
As the first free, confidential and culturally sensitive peer support services that purposely aim to meet the specific needs of disaffected youth of Somali heritage, we provide:
Confidential telephone and email counselling
Drop-in sessions
Group and 1-1 sessions
Mentoring
Parent/child sessions
Workshops such Art therapy
